The Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, Mohammed Funtua, has picked the nomination form of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly in 2015.
Mr. Funtua, who was issued both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms after paying the prescribed fees in Katsina, informed reporters that his decision to represent Funtua local government in the state legislature was based on his desire to ensure justice and fairness for his constituency, which, he alleged, had been marginalised by the present administration in the scheme of things.
The legislative aide particularly expressed his disappointment in how Funtua, which he said is the second largest local government after Katsina local government, had been neglected in terms of provision of infrastructure and other social amenities in the last seven years.
He alleged that certain local governments, smaller in size and importance, were transformed to the detriment of Funtua.
He also challenged the state government to disclose the developmental projects it had executed in each local government of the state in the last seven and half years.
“If they can respond to this challenge, everyone will see the glaring imbalances on how my area has been consistently marginalised with every of the little infrastructure established long ago deteriorating without any attempt by the state government to address the issue”, he said.
“It is such a pitiful situation that as important as Funtua is to the state, it is only one quarter of the town that enjoys epileptic water supply; there is lack of township roads except those constructed by the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF.
“Even in sighting higher educational institutions, Funtua, in particular and Katsina south in general has not been found suitable enough to host any, but they have instead concentrated such institutions in two local governments within a radius of 80 kilometres”, Mr. Funtua added.
The aspirant, who was a former political editor of Peoples Daily newspapers and staff of News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, before his present appointment, said if elected, he would use his wealth of experience to ensure that his constituency and other local governments in the state were treated equally and fairly.
