On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu made his first appearance at the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Executive Council meeting after being sworn in as President. He proclaimed the election that put him in office to be the most credible in Nigeria’s history.
Despite ongoing court battles challenging the procedure, Tinubu said he is still convinced.
Yes, we are being challenged in court, but I believe this to be the most credible election in Nigeria, he remarked. Therefore, we should pat ourselves on the back. If you can’t celebrate the results of a free and fair election, you have no right to call yourself a democratic voter.
When asked about the current state of the party, which elected Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano, as its chairman, Tinubu stressed the importance of maintaining harmony among the party’s ranks.
Being elected to public office, in his words, is a chance to “fulfill your dreams and the dreams of our founding fathers.”
The President has also admitted that there are legitimate governance concerns that must be resolved.
We’re going in for the kill; we know we need to oil the gears and lubricate the cogs. I’ve sent the Senate a list of potential ministers to vet and approve. We’re working hard to develop a government that truly serves the people and is accountable to them.
You haven’t been able to see me, but I can see several of my pals here. I am here because of the sacrifices you made. He said, “I will not meet you as often as you would like because we have governance concerns.
He went on to say that Nigeria is facing difficulties, which he had already covered in his show.
As for the country’s economy, he stated his administration is prepared to make changes, and that “our policies are for the people, not to punish the people.”
Tinubu also veered off topic to discuss politics on a global scale. ‘Yesterday, I communicated with people in Europe and the United States,’ he said. How do you deal with a barking dog, an angry dog, and keep a barking dog from eating from your enemy’s plate? I pose this question to our alliance partners. We need food, and Nigeria’s success is crucial to Africa. We ask for assistance, but not at the cost of our contentment and serenity.
He warned the party’s leaders that the fate of the organization rested in their hands and urged them to present a unified front.
Saying, “Let us show the rest of the country that we are united for a purpose, and if we deviate from the path, posterity will not forgive us,” he urged the nation to work together.
