The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase, has requested for assistance from the United Nations (UN) for the Nigeria Police to end the fight against terrorism.
Mr. Arase made the request when the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Counter Terrorism Executive Directorate, Weixiong Chen, visited him at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The visit, which was at the instance of the National Security Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.), discussed among other things, the identification of technical assistance needs.
A statement yesterday by the Force spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole, said the IG identified capacity building, International Police cooperation and coordination of operational activities of all law enforcement agencies with a counter-terrorism mandate, as impetus needed to put an end to terrorism.
Chen promised that the needs of the Force will be channeled to the United Nations.
