During his acceptance speech last night at the 17th Ghana Music Awards where he won the African Artiste of the Year Award, Nigerian pop star, Wizkid made a special announcement.
He unveiled 3 new acts under his Starboy Entertainment Worldwide. The new acts are Efya, R2Bess, and Mr. Eazi.
Wizkid already had a working relationship with all the acts – having been spotted with neo-soul artiste Efya in the studio in recent months, collaborated with R2Bess in the past and also teased a remix to Mr Eazi‘s hit single ‘Skin Tight’ on Snapchat sometime in April.
R2Bees is a Ghanaian hip hop and hiplife duo from Tema made up of Faisal Hakeem (Paedae da Pralem) and Rashid Mugeez (Mugeez). They were nominated at the 2013 BET Awards.
They often sing and rap in native language Twi and Pidgin. They are one of the top purveyors of Ghanaian hip hop surgery hiplife, which mixes rap with sounds of high-life (African pop music) and reggae.
In 2012, R2Bees was featured in Forbes’ list of Top 13 African Celebrities to watch in 2013.
Take a deep breath, Efya’s real name is quite mouthful; Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor.
Efya is a Ghanaian neo soul vocalist, songwriter, performer and actress from Kumasi. She is the daughter of Nana Adwoa Awindor, a filmmaker and celebrity host of the late television show Greetings From Abroad.
Her first mixtape, T.I.N.T., was released on November 11, 2013. On April 22, 2016, she released her long awaited debut studio album Janesis.
He’s a Ghana-based Nigerian-born entertainer who had his basic and secondary education in Lagos, Nigeria and university education in Ghana.
Mr Eazi calls his genre of ‘Banku Music’ (a subset of Afrobeats) which is characterized by laid back deliveries on majorly afro-soulful instrumentals, influenced by his Ghanaian/Nigerian cultural upbringing.
Mr Eazi is one of the fastest rising Afro-beats artist in Ghana with four hit singles already to his credit.
He currently shuttles between Nigeria and Ghana at the moment for music, business and family.
