For the upcoming HBO documentary titled The Defiant Ones, Eminem paid homage to two of music biggest trailblazers in Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine.
“Jimmy Iovine is the levitator; Dre is the innovator,” says Em during the one-minute trailer for the doc. Iovine and Dre have been instrumental to the success of the “Slim Shady” MC since he first inked his contract with Interscope and Aftermath in 1998. Em went on to nab six solo No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart.
The Defiant Ones will navigate through the successful business relationship between music moguls Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. Aside from Eminem, Nas, Ice Cube, U2’s Bono, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg and Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor will provide interviews highlighting the legacy behind the formidable duo. Allen Hughes (Menace II Society) directed the four-part documentary.
“Jimmy is like a virus that enters the system uninvited,” quips Bono regarding Iovine’s involvement in music matters. During another segment of the trailer, Dr. Dre conveys his appreciation for hip-hop and how it changed his life. “I was really determined to be a success. I was blessed to find hip-hop,” he says.
Not only will fans receive interviews from some of their favorite artists, they’ll have a chance to watch unseen footage, including studio sessions with Stevie Nicks, Eazy-E, N.W.A, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen.
