Marcos Rojo has displayed the extent of the serious head injury he picked up in Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
The defender clashed heads with David Silva in the first half and was left bleeding severely from the head.
Rojo was treated on the pitch before being forced to walk to the touchline where he had the wound cleaned and treated.
The 27-year-old was bandaged up and sent back on to the pitch, but was ultimately substituted at half-time and replaced by Victor Lindelof.
Miraculously, Silva came away from the incident unscathed and went on to win man of the match.
Following the clash of heads, Rojo posted a picture of his nasty looking wound which had been stapled in two places.
“He’s a brave guy,” Jose Mourinho said following the clash. “I don’t know, let’s see if he can be ready for the match. but if he’s not ready, we have other alternatives to play.
Luckily for Mourinho, Phil Jones has returned after picking up a thigh injury on international duty.
“Phil Jones was already on the bench at the weekend,” said the United boss. “The injury is behind him and hopefully he can stay fit for the rest of the games.”
