The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called upon secondary school students in Oyo State to reject involvement in cybercrime and to report any criminal activities they witness in their schools and communities.
ACE I Halima Mustafa Rufa’u, the Acting Commander of the Ibadan Zonal Command, made this appeal during a pre-Integrity Club inauguration sensitization program held in selected schools in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Wednesday, July 5.
Speaking through the Head of the Public Affairs Department of the Zonal Command, DSE Egbodofo Olumide, Rufa’u expressed concern about the high prevalence of cybercrime among young people. She explained that the EFCC’s commitment to addressing this issue led to the establishment of Integrity Clubs in primary and secondary schools, as well as Zero Tolerance Clubs in tertiary institutions. These clubs serve as platforms for instilling values, raising awareness, and mobilizing citizens to take corrective action against economic and financial crimes.
Rufa’u emphasized that the inauguration of these clubs would empower students to become agents of positive change and advocates against corruption in society. By joining the clubs, students automatically become ambassadors of the EFCC and are expected to serve as role models in their schools and communities.
The Zonal Commander urged students to respect their teachers and parents, highlighting the importance of securing their future through obedience and diligence.
Similar messages were delivered to students at Baptist Secondary School, Oke-ado, Ibadan, and Concord School, Ring Road, Ibadan. ACE II Olusegun Oloruntuyi, Head of the Extractive Industry Fraud Section, and CSE Juliet Odogwu, Head of the Counter Terrorism and General Investigation Section, represented the EFCC during these sessions.
In addition, the EFCC/NYSC CDS Group Executives, led by Iyinsioluwa Ibukun Olatinwo, a corps member serving in the legal department of the Zonal Command, encouraged the students to always do the right thing.
As part of the sensitization program, the EFCC presented mathematical sets, notebooks, and other writing materials to the top five students in each class of the participating schools. This gesture aimed to motivate and reward academic excellence.
