Barcelona’s Financial Situation Blocked Neymar’s Return – Deco

Barcelona’s new sporting director, Deco has come out to explain why it was impossible for the club to re-sign Neymar this summer. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.

According to him, everyone knows Barcelona’s financial situation at the moment, therefore it was not possible to even try to find an agreement with either PSG or his new Saudi club.

Deco added that new signings henceforth will have to be financially viable enough for the club to consider negotiating.

His words, “Everyone knows that at the moment, unfortunately, with our financial situation, it was impossible to make a signing like this. We needed an understanding with PSG or an arrangement with the Saudis, something that didn’t happen. It was a situation that needed to be financially viable for us, but it was never a solution because of the club’s financial situation.”

In his debut season, he excelled in French football, winning the league title and being voted Ligue 1 Player of the Year.

Despite recurring injuries in Paris, he helped PSG attain an historic domestic quadruple in the 2019–20 season, during which the club also reached its first ever Champions League final, with Neymar being named in the UEFA Team of the Year for the second time in his career.
