A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has called for the North-Central region to produce the party’s next National Chairman.
His stance is rooted in the party’s existing zoning arrangement, which assigns the position to the North-Central zone.
Ologbondiyan made this statement over the weekend in Abuja while hosting a group of PDP youths from the North-Central region.
He urged party members to respect the agreed zoning formula and resist attempts to deviate from the party’s established framework.
Speaking during the event, Ologbondiyan said, “Ignore the antics of certain members of the party who have turned themselves into the party’s Constitution, churning out rules at their whims and caprices.”
He further emphasised that the foundation of the PDP’s decision-making lies in its constitution, specifically the 2017 amended version.
“The grundnorm for the PDP is the PDP’s Constitution (2017 as Amended) and not the desires of any individual irrespective of the position occupied by such an individual,” he added.
Ologbondiyan reiterated that the North-Central region is entitled to produce the successor to the outgoing National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
He warned against any individuals or groups attempting to undermine this process, stating that such moves do not serve the party’s best interests.
“Any individuals or groups wishing to stop the implementation of Section 47 (6) of the PDP Constitution (as amended) are not seeking the good of our party,” Ologbondiyan concluded.
His remarks have sparked discussions within the party, as members look ahead to the next phase of leadership within the PDP.
