The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, against making reckless political statements in his bid to impress his party’s stalwarts.
In a statement signed by the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, on Monday, the party urged Ganduje to familiarize himself with the political history of the Southwest to avoid misguided public utterances.
The warning follows reports that Ganduje, during a political gathering in Ondo State, boasted that the APC would deploy all means to capture the entire Southwest region.
The PDP condemned the statement, describing it as irresponsible and potentially destabilizing.
It emphasized that the people of Osun would independently decide their leadership in the 2026 governorship election, without interference.
“For a man who failed to secure his home state for the APC due to a disastrous tenure as governor to now threaten fire and brimstone in the Southwest is not only reckless but absolutely insane,” Bisi stated.
The PDP described Ganduje’s remarks as a careless attempt to incite political turmoil in a region already grappling with national ethnic distrust and economic difficulties.
“While Mr. President is focused on tackling the country’s economic challenges, Ganduje must avoid worsening the situation with talks of election manipulation.
Attempting such actions in the Southwest would be akin to stepping on a dangerous cobra’s tail,” Bisi warned.
The statement further criticized Ganduje’s tenure in Kano, where the APC lost support due to what it described as his poor governance.
It urged him to prepare for similar rejections in other states where the APC has failed to meet public expectations.
Bisi also referenced the 2022 Osun governorship election, where APC’s attempt to rig the vote backfired. “Ganduje must remember how reckless comments by his predecessor triggered backlash, leading to a decisive defeat for APC’s Gboyega Oyetola.
The same fate awaits APC in Osun,” the statement concluded.
