Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Wednesday urged political parties in the country to aside their differences and work towards addressing the security challenges bedevilling the country.
Okorocha made the call during his annual “State of Imo Address” which marked his third anniversary in office as governor.
He stated that the rising trend of terrorism in the country was a fight which should be fought by all, regardless of political differences.
The governor regretted that instead of thinking of ways to tackle the challenges of insecurity, the issue had been turned into a topic for political blackmail.
“All political parties should join hands to end the spate of terrorism in our country; it is an evil which knows no faces, tribe or religion.
“It is a war against the nation and the faster we put aside our differences to end it the better for all of us; if we cannot guarantee the safety of lives and property of Nigerian citizens, then our political offices are worthless”.
He, however, commended the people of the state for their support to his government in the three years and pledged his commitment to improving the lot of the citizens.
Okorocha also commended the people for their sacrifices, adding that without such support he would not have successfully implemented the free education programme in the state.
He assured that the free education programme would be sustained even after the tenure of his administration. (NAN)
