President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday extended his condolences to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State and the people of the state over the tanker fire accident that resulted in the loss of lives of 60 persons over the weekend.
The victims were burnt to death when the driver of a petrol-laden tanker lost control of the brakes and rammed the tanker into a busy bus station in Onitsha.
In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the president described the incident as a sad and unfortunate loss.
He said the incident was made more unfortunate by the number of families who are currently mourning the loss of their loved ones.
“My deepest sympathies are with you at this most trying time”, Buhari said in his condolence message.
Mr. Buhari also extended his condolences to the Vice President of America, Joe Biden, who lost his son, Beau, to cancer of the brain.
“As someone who has lost a child, I understand how painful and almost inconsolable it can be. The government and people of Nigeria stand with you at this trying moment for your family”, Buhari said.
President Buhari added that only God can offer comfort to both the governor and people of Anambra, and to Vice President Biden.
“I pray that God comforts you”, he added.
