The Presidency has denied reports that Boko Haram was targeting the house of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Although the presidency acknowledged that the statement was contained in a communique issued at the end of the Thursday National Economic Council meeting chaired by the Vice President, it explained that the statement was made in error.
In a statement to correct the error by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande said that the Vice President meant to say that the insurgents were now targeting the house of Very Important Persons, VIPs.
“A press briefing note circulated today by the Secretariat of the National Economic Council (NEC) contains a typo on the very last line of the last paragraph.
“That paragraph should read ‘The Vice President also disclosed that security reports has it that scavengers are now being prepared by insurgents to dump refuse laden with bombs in the houses of VIPs.’
The last line erroneously says “in the house of the Vice President.”
Boko Haram has intensified attacks in recent weeks. The insurgent group has killed over 13,000 people since its campaign of violence started in 2009.
