The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described as a welcome development the formal defection of the member representing Aba central constituency at the State House of Assembly and ex-minority leader, Abraham Oba, to the ruling PDP from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Abraham Oba who was elected twice on the platform of APGA, had announced his defection in a letter read on the floor of the house by the Speaker, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, at its plenary sitting on Tuesday.
The lawmaker cited the factional crisis in the party and other issues rocking the Abia chapter of APGA as the reason for his defection to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
However, the Abia chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, in a statement by the Secretary, David Iro, issued to journalists in Umuahia, on Wednesday, noted that Oba remains one of the finest in the current seventh Assembly and that his defection was another sign of progress in the party in the state.
The PDP in the statement partly said, “He is one politician that is driven by principles, convictions and integrity. He believes in the course of his constituents and does not chase shadows.
“His defection to our great party is another confirmation that the PDP led administration of Gov. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Ph.D is moving Abia forward.
“We are going to give him his rights of place in our party. With the wealth of his experience in party politics, I have no doubt he will add value to our party in his constituency and the state at large”.
The party leadership thanked all the PDP members in the state Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji for their courage and unity of purpose amongst other things that endeared Hon Abraham Oba to join her fold instead of the other way.
The Abia PDP called on remaining opposition members in the State Assembly to join her fold as the umbrella is very large and strong enough to accommodate all.
“We look forward to receiving you to our fold where politics is played without bitterness and acrimony for the good of our dear state”, the party added.
