Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu says his administration will sponsor more than 20,000 youths in agriculture to make them self -reliant.
Speaking in Umuahia, Ikpeazu noted that what the “youths desire is sustainable empowerment which begins with qualitative education.”
He also disclosed that his administration would in the next three months commission the revenue house which would be a one stop shop for those willing to do business in the state, adding that the guideline for all approved taxes payable in the state will soon be ready.
Unemployment is high in Abia, with several idle youths now getting involved in criminal acts. The governor therefore promised to launch a special security task force comprising the Police, Army and the Department of State Security Services in the state to check kidnapping and other violent crimes which appear to be returning to the state.
Just a few months to the April 11 governorship election, the government led by former governor Theodore Orji gave out vehicles free of charge to the youths of Ikwuano Local Government Area in the state as a way of reducing unemployment and alleviating poverty.
