The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed idris has called on Nigerians, especially those in the finance sector of the economy to join the present administration’s fight against corruption in Nigeria. He made the call recently when he reunited with his classmates, the class of 84 graduates from the Faculty of Administration in the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
According to him, Nigeria is presently faced with a lot of challenges occasioned by widespread endemic corruption in the system. He called Nigerians to rally round and support President Buhari’s agenda for change and anti-corruption; while describing President Buhari as a man with a clean heart, who has good plans for Nigeria.
Ahmed Idris urged his colleagues and all Nigerians to individually become agents of change, noting that most of the problems bedevilling the country can actually be solved at the micro level, family level, places of worship, offices and other individual endeavours as one stands up for what is right. He pledged that his tenure as the Accountant General of the Federation will be characterized with openness, inclusiveness, accountability and respect for the rules and tenets of public service.
He also expressed readiness to accept ideas and suggestions that will enhance his assignment as the manager of the nation’s treasury.
Earlier in his remarks, the first female President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigerian (ANAN) and a member of the ABU class of 84, Ladi Ibrahim urged the Accountant General of the Federation to enforce discipline in the management of public finances in the country. She encouraged him to report erring Accountants to the disciplinary committees of the two professional accounting bodies in the country.
While delivering his welcome address, Idris Saidu on behalf of the Class of 84 graduates commended the Accountant General for his performance, saying he has instituted reforms in public financial management such as the implementation of the Treasury Single Account, despite negative pressures from different stakeholders. He assured the Accountant General of their continued support and prayers to ensure that he succeeds in his assignment.
