A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mr. Augusustine Alegeh, has been elected President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).
Alegeh, who is of the Benin Branch of the NBA, polled 691 votes to defeat four contestants in the election which held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Coming a distant second was Mr. Oladele Adeshina (SAN), with 370 votes, followed by Mrs. Olufunke Adekoya (SAN), who polled 255 votes. Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) and Mr. Osas Erhabor came fourth and fifth with 126 and 17 votes respectively.
Three of the votes were declared invalid and five were blank.
Delegates registered for the election were 1,728 among which only 1,482 were accredited to vote.
Mr. Alegeh and other elected officials will be sworn-in on August 29 during NBA’s Annual General Conference in Owerri, Imo State.
