The Association of Anambra State Development Unions (AASDU) Lagos has concluded plans to host the candidates of the participating political parties in the November 6, 2021, Anambra governorship election.
President of AASDU Lagos, Chief Amechi Ebeledike, disclosed this at a press conference last Thursday in Lagos. According to him, the event tagged Nzuko Umunna would hold on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Colonades Hotels, Ikoyi, Lagos.
He explained that the platform would provide the candidates with the opportunity to interact with the major influential stakeholders in the Anambra Project and by extension connect with the grassroots.
He said the event was part of the AASDU’s registered nine-point objectives, which include “to initiate, organise and execute programmes, activities and projects calculated to enhance at all times amiable brotherhood, harmony, unity, understanding and co-operation among its members and to promote social, cultural and economic well-being and image of Anambra State in particular, and Nigeria in general.”
Ebeledike added that AASDU Lagos has a mission to restore the dignity of Anambra State and her indigenes as the Light of the Nation, saying the group engages in activities aimed at ensuring the corporate well being of the people.
“One of such engagements is our Nzuko Umunna scheduled to hold here in Lagos on Saturday, October 9, 2021, with the flag bearers of the political parties contesting the November 6, 2021, governorship election,” he declared.
He also stated that the group has forum for engagements with its host government in Lagos, “on matters affecting us as law abiding residents,” adding that, “there has been a great deal of progressive partnership with the host government to ensure peaceful coexistence with fellow residents.”
Ebeledike, therefore, called for continuous cooperation and support of every Anambra indigene, even as he encouraged them to join their respective town unions, so as to be covered under the AASDU umbrella.
“We urge our people to be patriotic and law abiding at all times within the jurisdiction of our host state,” Ebeledike said.
Chairman of the Activities, Programme and Implementation Committee (APIC) of AASDU, Theo Madu, an engineer, said there was plan to deploy hybrid facilities to accommodate participants virtually, maintaining that all aspirants were encouraged to take active part to interact and sell their programmes to Anambra people.
The press conference was attended by some Executive Committee members of the group including the Second Vice President, Chief Ugo Ofodile; Assistant Legal Adviser, Victor Nwakasi; Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chidi Abajue; Director of Socials, Nze Felix Alaejemba and Ex-officio members, namely, Sir Eric Nwafor, Chief Chris Eze, among others.
