Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State have joined forces to sign a renewed peace accord ahead of the highly anticipated Supreme Court verdict on the state’s gubernatorial election dispute.
The signing ceremony, which took place at the Nigeria Police Command Headquarters in Lafia on Monday, marked a significant step towards ensuring peace and stability in the state.
During the event, leaders from both parties engaged in discussions aimed at reaffirming their commitment to the security and well-being of Nasarawa State.
Following the signing, Douglas Otaru, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, emphasized the importance of maintaining civility and decorum among party members.
He urged supporters to refrain from making statements that could incite unrest and cautioned against unauthorized disclosures related to the Supreme Court proceedings.
Otaru stressed the need for all statements regarding court proceedings to be verified and approved by the party leadership before publication.
He called for calmness among supporters and advised against any actions that could jeopardize the peace and stability of the state, especially in the lead-up to, during, and after the Supreme Court judgment.
In line with security agencies’ directives, Otaru called on party members to strictly adhere to instructions and ensure compliance.
He also extended an appeal to the opposition PDP and its supporters, urging them to respect the peace treaty, maintain civility, and uphold decorum for the greater good of the state.
The statement issued by Otaru underscored the importance of a peaceful Nasarawa State, emphasizing that peace is essential for the progress and governance of the state.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the PDP seeking redress over the appellate court’s decision to nullify the election tribunal’s judgment that removed Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.
The decision sets the stage for an eagerly anticipated ruling that will have significant implications for the state’s political landscape.
