The adoption of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2015 poll has united party members, the party said on Sunday.
Abubakar Bakabe, the APC State Secretary, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Damaturu that the emergence of Mr. Gaidam was a good fortune for the party.
“The collective decision of all stakeholders to speak with one voice by endorsing the governor as their candidate in 2015 has strengthened the party.
“Stakeholders including federal and state legislators, ward and local government party executives and elders endorsed Gov. Gaidam on Saturday without any objection”, he said.
While speaking on Saturday after his endorsement, Mr. Gaidam said voting out the PDP-led federal government was “imperative”.
“Having realized that the problems which have retarded the development of Nigeria and indeed the realization of the Nigeria of our dream are as a result of PDP misrule, our party, the APC is taking unprecedented steps to make change”, he said.
“The PDP is now on the verge of collapse. It is fast losing its grip as manifested in the loss of many of its supporters nationwide. Here in Yobe, we have received thousands of former PDP supporters into the fold of APC; and today we are receiving more high profile group into the APC.
“As we begin another journey towards rescuing the future of our nation, I urge the new entrants to fully join us in working hard to ensure that the PDP is booted out so that we can, once again, take the destiny of our nation in our hands”, the governor, who would be seeking a second term in 2015, added.
While speaking on Sunday, Mr. Abubakar, who commended the stakeholders for the governor’s endorsement, expressed the hope that the party would win next year’s election in the state.
“The party appreciates the support and cooperation our supporters and the people of Yobe have extended to the Gaidam administration.
“APC is assuring the people of the state that government will continue to provide good governance, service delivery including provision of infrastructure to improve their lives”.
The party secretary described APC as a party on a mission to better the lot of Nigeria and Nigerians.
