Rachael Akpabio, the secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress Committee (SCC) for Taraba State has revealed the real reason the exercise could not take place in the state.
Unlike some states of the federation where the state congress were observed to have taken place, the reverse, as noticed by the media, was the case in Taraba as the exercise could not take place due to pockets of skirmishes.
Explaining why the exercise was indefinitely postponed via a statement made available to newsmen in Jalingo, the state capital on Monday, the secretary of the committee said, the postponement of the exercise was as a result of the security reports made available to the committee.
The secretary said the desire of the committee to avoid any form of crisis that would lead to casualties compelled them to postpone the congress.
According to the statement , the “Taraba state All Progressives Congress (APC) Committee (SCC) received a disturbing security report on threatened violence and breach of peace on Saturday 16th October, 2021, the scheduled date for the state Congress.”
To avert any violence which may cause unwarranted casualties she said the committee unanimously arrived at the decision to postpone the congress till further notice.
Since the commencement of the congresses from the ward to local government levels, the party as noticed by our correspondent, has known no peace following accusations and counter accusations that have continued to emanate from different quarters among the party members.
