Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant in the 2023 election and former civilian governor of Abia State, has passed away in Abuja.
Details surrounding Onu’s death are still unclear at this time, but sources indicate that he had been battling an undisclosed illness.
Onu’s last significant public appearance was during the APC primary election in 2022, where he raised concerns about injustice against the people of the Southeast region.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Onu as the Minister of Science and Technology in November 2015.
However, he resigned from his position on May 6, 2022, to contest in the APC presidential race, ultimately losing to President Bola Tinubu.
