Party leaders from the All Progressives People Congress (APC) have been detained by security forces in the Kogi county seat of Dekina LGA, and the APC has demanded their release.
During a press conference on Thursday in Ilorin, the party’s governorship candidate’s campaign spokesperson, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, voiced concerns over recent security operations in several areas of Kogi East.
He saw party leaders being detained in Dekina LGA for no apparent reason.
Fanwo urged the state’s law enforcement to act responsibly and that his party supported violence-free elections.
He detailed the APC’s campaigning strategies and the difficulties that have arisen in preparation for the governor’s race on November 11.
The APC Governorship Campaign Council has voiced concern over recent security operations in sections of Kogi East, during which prominent members of the APC were detained for reasons that remain unclear.
“Our chieftains were not involved in any conduct hostile to the state’s peace and should not have been subjected to such treatment.
To ensure that “innocent citizens are not unnecessarily punished for the sins of others,” he stated, “we also call for responsible conduct on the part of law enforcement agencies.”
According to him, the party does not condone or defend any act of lawlessness.
However, we are willing to state categorically that our arrested leaders and members are innocent and did not deserve to be treated in this way.
So that they may be reunited with their families, he added, “we call on security agencies to release them unconditionally.”
A representative for the campaign stated that security organizations must demonstrate the value of each individual life.
