In a ruling that validated Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s victory in the Oyo South district election, the National Assembly Petition Tribunal’s ruling was affirmed by a Court of Appeal that was sitting in Lagos. This ruling was issued in favour of Senator Alli.
According to InfoStride News, Alli ran for office on the platform provided by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that he is the victor of the election for the position of senator that took place on Saturday, February 25.
At the tribunal, however, Alli’s victory was contested by candidates from the New Nigeria Peoples Party and the Peoples Democratic Party. Funmilayo Gbogbolomo and Joseph Tegbe respectively represented their respective parties.
InfoStride News recalls that earlier, the tribunal had acknowledged Alli’s victory and awarded her the prize.
The petitions that were submitted by the PDP and NNPP candidates were rejected by the tribunal.
After the verdict was handed down by the tribunal, the two litigants eventually took their case to the Court of Appeal.
Despite this, the Court of Appeal upheld the victorious outcome of the APC senator’s election on Friday.
The judgement of the lower tribunal was upheld, and the appeal filed by Tegbe was rejected by the Court of Appeal on the grounds that it was without merit.
In addition to this, it rejected Gbogbolomo’s appeal.
The appeals made by the two individuals were unanimously rejected by the judges.
