Sewe Sport forward, Roger Assale has set sights on the Orange CAF Confederation Cup title as a farewell gift to fans of the club. The striker, named the Most Valuable Player at the end of the 2014 Ivorian season will join DR Congo outfit, TP Mazembe after the final against Egyptian giants, Al Ahly, after agreeing a five-year deal with the Lubumbashi-based club.
Assale, who has scored four goals for the reigning Ivorian champions, in the competition talks to Cafonline.com ahead of the first leg against Ahly on Saturday, 29 November 2014 in Abidjan;
Cafonline.com: What is the additional motivation for being named player of the season ahead of the match?
Roger Assale: It has boosted my morale. Indeed, it aids the mission of going for the trophy for Sewe Sport and Ivorians, who are thirsting for a continental title. I’m not the only distinguished player in the team. There is our coach, Rigo Gervais, who was named the best coach of the season and our goalkeeper, Sylvain Gbohouo. So a stiff test awaits Al Alhy. The current Sewe Sport team is legendary club like the one of ASEC Mimosas that we respected a lot in the past. Sewe Sport also want to become a great club and the final is a step towards that.
How are you approaching this final against Al Ahly?
It’s a final and there is no calculation to do. You have to go looking for a win and this is what we will be doing. It will be a terrible double confrontation. This final will be played between two teams that are eyeing the title. They (Ahly) have great experience and we have our passion and the will to win. Whether in Abidjan or Cairo, we will play to win the final.
Do you still have Sewe Sport in mind after signing for TP Mazembe?
I prefer that we focus on the final. I’m still a Sewe Sport player. It’s after the final that I will experience the TP Mazembe feeling. The final of the CAF Confederation Cup against Al Ahly remains a priority for me. My goal is to win the trophy, and offer it as a gift to Séwé Sport before leaving. Together with my teammates, we are focused on that objective.
