Former Nigerian Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has urged aggrieved governorship aspirants in Edo State to set aside their differences and support the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
Atiku’s appeal comes in the wake of threats by Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, to take legal action against Ighodalo’s emergence as the PDP’s governorship candidate in the state.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Atiku praised the PDP’s selection of Ighodalo, describing him as a thoroughbred technocrat who embodies the qualities needed for effective leadership in Edo State.
He commended the PDP leadership and members in Edo State for conducting a successful primary election, which resulted in the selection of Ighodalo as the party’s candidate.
Atiku emphasized the importance of unity within the party, urging all aspirants and stakeholders to reconcile their differences for the greater good of the party and the state.
Atiku highlighted Ighodalo’s credentials, referring to him as a brilliant mind and a fine gentleman, expressing confidence that under Ighodalo’s leadership, Edo State will experience stability and progress.
