A housewife, Ramatu Idris of Unguwar Malam Lamu, Tankarau, Dutsen Abba Ward in Zaria Local Government Area (LGA), in Kaduna has narrated how bandits made her a widow barely a month after her marriage with late Yusuf Suleiman.
Idris made this known on Thursday.
She disclosed that the incident happened on February 4, at about 12.45 p.m., 28 days after her wedding to Suleiman.
“There were about seven of them (bandits). They forced themselves into our home holding guns and a stick. My husband and I went to find out what was happening on hearing noises and shouts for help. But he was shot on the neck in my presence and he died on the spot.’’
Idris, who has been traumatised by the incident, claimed those who killed her husband were the same criminals that raided the residence of Alhaji Abdulaziz Sani. Sani is the councilor representing Dutsen Abba Ward. The bandits also abducted six of his family members.
The woman said that the gang was later apprehended at Unguwan Mai Turmi village, Igabi Local Government Area (LGA); by personnel of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS).
Also, following the attack on Sani’s household and the killing of Suleiman, residents of Kampani and Saye Communities in Dutsen Abba Ward, have appealed to the Kaduna State Government to deploy more security personnel along cattle routes in the area to curb cattle rustling, kidnapping and other crimes.
Meanwhile, a Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi on Thursday, ordered that a panel beater, Orngu Asan, be remanded in a correction centre for alleged sodomy.
The police charged Asan, who resides in Gboko, Benue with criminal conspiracy and unnatural offence.
Magistrate Erdoo Ter did not take the plea of Asan for want of jurisdiction. Subsequently, he adjourned the case until March 4 for mention. Furthermore, Ter ordered the police to return the case file to the Benue Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Sgt. Regina Ishaya told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division Gboko; by Kember Francis of Gboko south, Gboko L.G.A Benue on January 26, 2021.
