The agent for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong remained coy when recently questioned about his client’s future amid interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Speaking to De Telegraaf about De Jong, Ali Dursun passed the responsibility to Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars to verify interest from the likes of Real and United in the Netherlands international.
“I can neither confirm nor deny this,” Dursun said when asked about the pair’s interest after watching De Jong in the 3-0 Champions League win over AEK Athens recently. “You must ask Marc Overmars — I send all interested clubs his way.”
Overmars has said in the past that a Barcelona bid of €30 million for De Jong failed this summer because it was nowhere near what the midfielder is worth in today’s market.
“Barca did not value [De Jong], their offer did not correspond with Frenkie’s qualities,” Overmars told reporters at the Ajax Kick Off event .
A new round of bidding for De Jong is expected in January, but Overmars has already confirmed that Ajax will not be selling anyone in the middle of a campaign.
“[Barcelona] can try again for Frenkie in January if they want, but we will not sell any players midseason,” he added.
