The Bauchi State Government has recently unveiled ambitious plans for infrastructural development, earmarking a substantial N100 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of a vast network of roads spanning 200 kilometers across the state. This significant announcement came to light during a press briefing by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Usman Garba, who shared the outcomes of the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday.
Governor Bala Mohammed has given the green light for the commencement of these crucial projects, with a keen focus on 16 strategically selected roads. Among the noteworthy additions are two flyovers strategically placed at the bustling areas of Wunti and Central Market. These flyovers, beyond serving as vital transportation arteries, are envisioned to contribute to the aesthetic enhancement of the urban landscape while addressing congestion in the heart of the city.
Delving into the financial details, Ibrahim Galadaima, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Works and Transportation, laid out a comprehensive breakdown of the cost estimates associated with the various road construction and rehabilitation endeavors. Notably, a substantial N11.3 billion has been allocated for the construction of the 29-kilometer Boi, Gambar, Sara, and Lere roads. In a bid to alleviate congestion and enhance connectivity, N20 billion has been set aside for the construction of two flyovers at Wunti and Central Market.

The rehabilitation of the 29-kilometer Dindima, Yashi, and Maina Maji roads is slated to receive N9.9 billion in funds. Further expansion of the road network includes the construction of the 42-kilometer Geljaule-Leme road at a cost of N14.2 billion and the dualization of a seven-kilometer stretch from A.D. Rufai College to Government Secondary School, Misau, with a budget of N4.5 billion.
The infrastructural development agenda extends to various areas, including the construction of a 2.6-kilometer Gwallameji, Doka, Rafin Zurfi-Dass road at a cost of N2 billion. Additionally, a budget of N2.6 billion has been allocated for the construction of the 4.5-kilometer Sabo Kaura, Birshi Gandu, Bauchi Radio Corporation roads. Other noteworthy projects include the construction of a 4-kilometer Zango, Gwalaga Mayaka roads at a cost of N4.5 billion and the establishment of the Sharia Court of Appeal in Bauchi metropolis, requiring an investment of N606 million.
The scope of development also encompasses the dualization of the 11-kilometer Kano Road, stretching from Government Secondary School (GSS), Ningi, to Gudduba, with an allocated budget of N10.3 billion. Another dualization project from Emir’s palace, Azare, to Satreco roundabout roads has been earmarked at N4.4 billion.
Not limiting the transformative efforts to roads alone, the state government has also allocated N2.6 billion for the construction of the Bayara-Garagajiba road and N1.8 billion for the internal road of Bauchi State University, Gadau. Additionally, the rehabilitation of 29 kilometers of Adamami and Disina-Jama’are roads has been budgeted at N6.8 billion, with an extra N737 million set aside for the 1.1-kilometer Bayara township road.
In a move highlighting the commitment to preserving cultural heritage, the government has allocated N2.2 billion for the total renovation and upgrading of the Emirs’ palaces in Bauchi, Jama’are, Ningi, and Dass. This comprehensive investment is a testament to the state’s dedication to fostering both infrastructural and cultural development.
