The State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has urged members of the National Defence College to be patriotic.
The Commissioner made the call while addressing the 23rd set of Senior Military Officers including the Police Paramilitary and Civilian counterparts of the National Defence College Abuja during a courtesy visit in her office in Port Harcourt yesterday.
According to her “Nigeria is lucky to have a military with people who are quite honestly well trained and who are gentlemen who many times literally squeeze water out of stone in the attempt to guarantee the security of lives and property and therefore would ask our military to remain patriotic, and commit themselves to the ideals of higher service in the interest of the country”.
Mrs. Semenitari explained that one of the things that happened when Governor Amaechi took office in October 2007 was to take decisive action with regards to restoring the beauty of the city and also providing conditions that would not encourage criminality, disease and poverty as Port Harcourt was the frontline of Niger Delta militancy.
The Commissioner also said that the Governor had declared Emergency in Education by building schools and also addressed the issues of development and poverty by building primary health centres.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation, Brigadier General Mahammed Aliu in his speech said that the College goes on an annual fact finding mission in different States hence their visit to Rivers State on the theme “SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT THROUGH URBAN RENEWAL IN Rivers STATE”.
Brigadier Aliu further said the National Defence College Abuja which has been in existence for the past 23 years has trained officers from all over the world including foreign officers from Brazil, the US, UK and Pakistan.
