Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has come out to open up on why he hired Benni McCarthy as part of his backroom staff. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, he chose the legendary South African striker because he needed a different voice, a role he believes McCarthy’s experience as a manager can fill.
ETH added that Benni will focus on the positioning and attacking of not just his strikers, but also the full-backs and midfielders.
His words, “There was still one place in our coaching staff that I wanted to fill.”
“Someone with a different voice and Benni is that one. He has experience as a manager. He was a coach in the professional level and he was a former striker, a really successful striker as well.”
“He will focus on the positioning and attacking.”
“I’m not saying only the strikers, but also the integration from the full-backs and midfielders. Our way of play has to be dynamic.”
