Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the derogatory labeling of the state’s youth as thugs and called for an immediate apology and cessation of such remarks.
The governor made this statement at Government House Makurdi on Friday, upon his return from an official trip to the United States of America, where he was warmly welcomed by various youth groups.
Governor Alia expressed his displeasure, stating that it was unfair to tag the hardworking young people of the state as thugs, as such comments tarnish the image of the state.
He said, “Any comment that does not go well with the image of the state and its very honourable individuals, this administration will take it up to you.
When you see young people supporting this administration or working hard for the growth and development of Benue State, do not call the youths thugs.”
The governor emphasized the need to respect and honor the youths, noting their contributions to the state’s progress and development.
He also shared insights from his trip to the United States, highlighting Benue State’s presence on the international stage and its potential for development.
Governor Alia mentioned that Benue was among the 19 Northern states invited to the USA by the United States Peace Institute to discuss and find solutions to the insecurity challenges in the Northern states.
