President Muhammadu Buhari has come out to say that he is yet to give any date for the reopening of the land borders.
According to him, the decision to close it will not be changed until the situation improves.
His spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, shared in a recent statement in Abuja that PMB said this when he received a delegation of Katsina State Elders Forum in his country home in Daura, Katsina State.
Buhari believes his government’s stance on the border is meant to decrease smuggling, especially rice, and thus far, Nigeria has saved lots of money on import bills.
He added that he is focusing on rekindling Nigeria’s agricultural rebirth.
His words, ”Farmers must be protected, dishonesty is deep-rooted in the country. Otherwise the border closure would not have been warranted.”
