Borussia Dortmund are preparing to offer highly sought-after midfielder Ilkay Gundogan a new deal, in order to ward off the belligerent interest coming from the likes of Manchester United, according to the Mirror.
.
The reigning Premier League champions have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old playmaker in recent months and, with Dortmund chiefs keen to tie him down to the club in order to benefit their long- term plan, they could offer him a lucrative package to convince him to extend his stay.
.
Despite having been injured for the majority of the current campaign, Gundogan was a key factor in Jurgen Klopp’s side’s European successes last season, and subsequently attracted the interest of clubs such as Real Madrid and United.
.
David Moyes is rumoured to be interested in the idea of bringing Gundogan to Old Trafford in order to aid his waning midfield.
.
However Dortmund are unwilling to lose yet another key star following the departures of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowksi- both to rivals Bayern Munich-and so the Red Devils may face an uphill battle.
.
The Bundesliga giants’ sporting director, Michael Zorc said: “For Ilkay, the most important thing is that he gets well first.
.
“But we will soon have discussions with him and his family. We have a very good relationship with them.”
