Civil society movement, the Working Group on Women, Youth, Peace and Security in West Africa and the Sahel (WGWYPS-WAS) have urged President Buhari to ensure more women and youths are part of his government, especially in areas that concern peace-building and security.
Speaking recently at the inauguration of the FCT chapter of the group, Representative of WGWYPS-WAS, Dr. Eleanor Nwadinobi, cried out about the testing phase Nigeria is having due to violence as a result of the insecurity in the country.
She said when key stakeholders, especially women and youths are added to the peace-building efforts of Buhari’s administration, these violence will be tackled, hence, we will have a developed nation to live in.
Her words, “Can we for once have a semblance of balance in ministerial appointments? When women were with Obasanjo, we witnessed the miracle they brought to his government. Mr President, we the Nigerian women, are calling on you to give us more place in your next cabinet.
“We are also calling for the emergence of a female Speaker of the House of Representatives. Let it be the legacy President Buhari will bequeath us.
“We have Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha in the race for the Speakership of the House of Representatives. She is a ranking federal lawmakers and a loyal member of the ruling party from the Southeast. So, why can’t we have a female Speaker?”
On her group’s plans in Abuja, she said, “Peace is not just the mere absence of war. For the fact that Abuja is relatively peaceful that’s why we need a movement such as this group in the FCT to complement government’s efforts towards maintaining that peace in the nation’s capital.”
