President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a written request to the Senate seeking approval to appoint 15 special advisers.
The letter was read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by Senate President David Mark.
The letter was Mr. Buhari’s first correspondence to the National Assembly since he was sworn-in on May 29, 2015.
Mr. Buhari did not indicate those he would appoint as advisers.
Earlier, the Senate had congratulated Mr. Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and all the 29 governors, who took oath of office on Friday.
In his remarks, Mr. Mark urged President Buhari and all the governors to observe the rule of law as they go about administering the country.
