The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, stated that Nigeria at this critical time needed “a strong ruling party and a strong opposition party to get its acts right”.
Chief Obasanjo said this while playing host to the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Markafi, who paid him a private courtesy visit.

Speaking on the state of the nation, Obasanjo lamented that lack of continuity of government policies and programs necessitated the slow pace of development in the country which according to him was not a step in the best interest of Nigeria.
He, however, affirmed his support for PDP and expressed his belief in a greater Nigeria reiterating for the umpteenth time that his life long passion was a “united and prosperous Nigeria which PDP government guaranteed throughout its 16 years rule”.
Obasanjo who called Sen Markafi as “the only recognised PDP Caretaker Chairman” described Markafi as a fine gentleman and commended him for providing meaningful leadership for PDP.
Thereafter, Sen Markafi and his entourage toured the impressive museum and library facilites of the Presidential Library.
On the entourage of the Caretaker Committee Chairman were Hon Eddy Olafeso, Alhaji Sarafa Ishola, Hon Fasiu Bakenne, Hon Mufutau Oduwaiye, Senator Babatunde Osholake, Hon Sikirulai Ogundele, Hon Tolu Bankole, and Hon Sunday Solarin among others.
