Kenya coach, Adel Amrouche remains confident about his team’s chances of a place at the next round of the Orange AFCON 2015 despite a narrow 1-0 win over Comoros last Sunday.
The Harambee Stars’ dominated the fixture against the visitors with Johanna Omollo’s thunderous strike in 34th minute separating the two sides.
Despite the outcome, Amrouche insists Kenya will finish the job in Comoros in two weeks.
“I’m happy with the result because we did not concede. It could have been a bad result if Comoros got an away goal but my backline did a good job. We played well in all departments and should have won by a bigger margin.
“We must go to Comoros with a mentality to advance. Comoros have a good side and could be dangerous at home. They looked dangerous on counter attacks and that is something we will work on.”
Amrouche also defended his decision to play Jamal Mohammed despite the Oman-based midfielder arriving on the eve of the match.
“We needed someone who could create and distribute passes to the strikers and that is why I felt Jamal (Mohammed) should start.”
Meanwhile, Comoros captain Nadjim Abdou insists their dream of reaching the second round is far from over.
The midfielder, who plies his trade with England championship side Milwall, insists that his side will work on getting a positive result at home after suffering a lone goal against the Harambee Stars in Nairobi.
“We were not as good as we wanted to be but hopefully we will play better in the return fixture. All in all we have another 90 minutes to play for in Moroni after a fortnight and that is our best opportunity to seal the game,” he told Cafonline.com after the game.
The second leg will take place in a fortnight in Moroni, with the winner advancing to the second round.
