An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has remanded 11 men in a correctional facility for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery.
The accused individuals include Musa Abdulahi (23), Abdulahi Sodiq (26), Umaru Dama (27), Usman Sule (23), Sule Abubakar (21), Muhammadu Abdulahi (30), Muhammed Bello (25), Musa Amu (22), Muhammed Abdulahi (23), Abu Abdulahi (30), and Muhammadu Abubakar (28).
The defendants are facing charges of armed robbery, a serious offence under Nigerian law.
Presiding Magistrate Gladys Oladele, however, did not take the pleas of the accused due to the court’s lack of jurisdiction over the case.
She directed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice on the matter.
Magistrate Oladele subsequently adjourned the case until 14th November for further mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Femi Omilana, informed the court that the defendants committed the alleged robbery on 13th September at around 9:00 a.m. in the Saki area of Oyo State.
Omilana stated that the accused, armed with a gun and cutlasses, robbed two individuals of goods valued at N340,000.
According to the prosecutor, the stolen items included three bags of soya beans worth N60,000, taken from one Mr Moshood Isau, and a motorcycle worth N280,000, stolen from one Mr Ibrahim Yuma.
Omilana further stated that the offence contravenes Section 1 (2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of Nigeria, 2004.
The defendants remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
