CS Sfaxien, Hamadi Daw says his team’s defiant display was simply not enough to overpower Egyptian giants, Al-Ahly in the 2014 Orange CAF Super Cup.
Ahly squeezed a 3-2 win on Thursday at the Cairo International Stadium in the annual one-off match between the winner of the Orange CAF Champions League and the champions of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup.
CS Sfaxien twice pulled back in the game but the ‘Red Devils’ held on to claim victory and take their tally to an unprecedented sixth.
“It was a tough game and the level was high. We were better in possession, but Ahly scored first. We had many chances to score but they [Ahly] scored from the few opportunities that came their way.
“We were better in the second half. Going down by three goals was difficult but we managed to pull one back again.
Daw, who missed the services of key players such as Maman Youssouf [did not travel with the team] and Gabonese Didier Ndong [injured], also defended his game plan and substitutions.
“Our tactics was okay and positive. After the third goal, I took the risk by bringing on attacking minded players. The new players brought in some new energy and we fought on.
“We did it all but the equalizer never came. I’m proud of my team for their effort and display.”
This is the second time Sfaxien has lost to Ahly in the CAF Super Cup. The Sfax-based club lost 2-1 in their previous meeting in 2009 at the same venue.

Well draws can be very dissappointing at times but the coaches have to take it that way. U don’t win all the time
