Dolphins Football Club has qualified for the semi-final stage of the on-going 2014 federation Cup.Dolphins qualified after defeating Lobi Star 4-2 in goal margin. In the 23rd minute of play, Emem Eduok scored the opening goal making it his third goal of the tournament.
Five minutes into the second half Lobi Stars equalized through Adamu Shaibu, the Lobi defense but the victory was short lived as Dolphins scored their goal four minutes into the second half through Ebube Okpokwu who latched a cross from Eduok. Dolphins put the nail in the head of Lobi Star when after a flurry of passes Bolaji Sariki scored another goal making it 3-1 for dolphins.
Victor Alegbe who replaced Chidiebere Okolie, scored the fourth goal in the 88 minutes for dolphins, making it 4-1 against Lobi Star. With two minutes of added time Audu Seriki of Lobi Star pulled a goal into the Dolphins net to make the final scores 4-2 in favour of Dolphins. Speaking to journalists after the match the lobi Stars coach, Evans Ogenyi conceded victory and superiority to Dolphins.
“They were the luckier and better side. I have already gone to congratulate their coach. They deserved the victory. They got their chances and took them,” Ogenyi said. Also speaking the coach of Dolphins, Mr. Stanley Eguma expressed disappointment with his players for missing several scoring chances.
“We keep working on goal scoring but the same things happen over and over again. I think it’s a loss of concentration that caused it. “ I’m not surprised at the score line and how we played because we have worked hard for this,” Eguma said. Meanwhile, Dolphins sister Club, Sharks FC was knocked out from the tournament by Enyimba International FC in Abuja.
