Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has declared that his decision to contest the upcoming governorship election is divinely inspired. However, he noted that Governor Godwin Obaseki has his own plans regarding the succession.
In an interview on a private broadcast television station in Lagos, Shaibu emphasized his conviction that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can only secure victory in the governorship election if he is the party’s candidate.
Shaibu revealed that his decision to contest came after extensive consultations with various individuals and groups within and outside Edo State.
He also mentioned seeking divine guidance through prayer, which he claimed confirmed his aspiration.
Despite his confidence in his suitability for the position, Shaibu hinted at Governor Obaseki’s potential support for another candidate.
He urged his party to consider his candidacy as crucial for their success, citing his qualities, experience, and the content he brings to the table.
The deputy governor’s declaration sets the stage for a potentially contentious race within the PDP as the party prepares for the upcoming election in Edo State.
