Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N675.2 billion into law, describing it as a budget aimed at reviving the state’s economy and delivering the dividends of democracy.
Speaking during the signing ceremony at the Government House, Okpebholo referred to the 2025 fiscal plan as the “Renewed Hope Budget for a Rising Edo.”
“I have just signed into law a budget of N675,220,058,858.52, tagged a ‘Renewed Hope Budget.’ It is my hope that the approved budget will revive the economy of Edo State and deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of the state,” he stated.
The governor emphasized that the budget prioritizes capital expenditure, signaling his administration’s commitment to undertaking massive capital projects in the coming fiscal year.
“In preparing the budget, special care was taken to ensure that a larger percentage was allocated to capital expenditure.
The administration is committed to embarking on significant capital projects in the new fiscal year,” Okpebholo added.
He also commended the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, and other lawmakers for their swift consideration and passage of the budget.
Earlier, while presenting the bill to the governor, Agbebaku disclosed that the House had increased the budget from the initial N605.7 billion to N675.2 billion to provide more funding for the agricultural sector.
The House of Assembly passed the budget during plenary on Monday, increasing the initial estimate of N605,776,065,857.34 presented on December 10, 2024, to N675,220,058,858.52.
Governor Okpebholo expressed optimism that the budget would significantly impact the socio-economic development of Edo State in 2025.
