Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has declared that the “Emilokan” slogan will not win the state’s elections.
At the Government House, he was addressing the leaders of the Edo South Senatorial District.
“Emilokan” was a tool employed by President Bola Tinubu in his presidential campaign.
But according to Obaseki, “Edo people will not accept ‘Emilokan’ as a government strategy because they are not known for that.” We shall make the decision based on the people.
“The events of the past few months are peculiar, and now is not the time to show off your ambition, even if you have any.” The election schedule is still pending. It is not possible to be a member of a government and the one to topple it.
“I had imagined that after we got together, we would all go away together, let the people tell us how good you did, and let them decide for themselves. They are the ones who insist that we must go forth, rain or shine.
“You are acting one way while telling the world another.” Despite being in court with your principle, you remain faithful to them. Everyone is free to pursue their goals as long as they do so ethically.
It seems that Obaseki was referring to his deputy, Philip Shaibu. Shaibu recently threatened to remove his principal from office by dragging him into court.
The governor had charged his deputy with rigging the youth council elections in order to advance his own aspirations to succeed him.
