The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed 27 of its personnel for offenses related to fraudulent activities and misconduct.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in Abuja.
According to the statement, the dismissals followed recommendations by the Staff Disciplinary Committee and were ratified by the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede
.
Oyewale stated, “Every modicum of allegation against any staff of the Commission would always be investigated, including a trending $400,000 claim of a yet-to-be-identified supposed staff of the EFCC against a Sectional Head.
The core values of the Commission are sacrosanct and would always be held in optimal regard at all times.”
While the identities of the dismissed officers were not disclosed, the EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity within its ranks.
The anti-graft agency also raised an alert about the activities of impersonators and blackmailers exploiting the name of its Chairman to extort money from high-profile individuals.
The statement cited a recent case involving two alleged members of a syndicate, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, who were arraigned before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
They were accused of contacting a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Koko, and demanding $1 million under the pretense of securing a “soft landing” from Olukoyede in a non-existent investigation.
The Commission emphasized that its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, is a man of integrity who cannot be influenced by monetary offers.
“The public is enjoined to always report such disreputable elements to the Commission,” the statement added.
The EFCC reiterated its dedication to eradicating corruption, both within and outside the agency, while ensuring that its core values remain uncompromised.
