Primary School Teachers in Ekiti State have been directed to adhere strictly to the curriculum designed to ensure effective and broad based teaching and learning in schools in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Bolu Ogundare who gave the directive in Ado Ekiti while on a monitoring tour of schools in the state, stressed the commitment of the present administration to the provision of free and qualitative education as enshrined in its six cardinal programme.
Mr. Ogundare explained that he embarked on the tour to ensure that teachers are up and doing in their respective duty posts, stressing that government would not compromise on issues of lateness and absenteeism as well as and staff welfare and discipline.
According to him, the monitoring exercise was also to ascertain the growth of pupils’ enrollment as well as ensure proper record keeping in the schools.
He emphasized the importance of proper record keeping and adequate data that would indicate increase in enrollment of pupils to enable government sufficiently plan and make provision for corresponding increase in furniture and other necessary facilities.
Maintaining that the monitoring exercise was not to witch-hunt, Ogundare said that the focus was to boost the teachers’ output, adding that the tutors must however remain role models and always be punctual to work.
