PHOENIX, AZ–(Marketwired – Jan 9, 2014) – Mobile Marketing & Technology today announced the EMV Countdown, a training session on best practices for adopting secure “chip and PIN” payment cards, in conjunction with the upcoming Mobile Payments Conference in Miami. Payment experts Catherine Johnston, president and CEO of ACT Canada; Bruce Murray P. Eng, president of B2 Processing Solutions; and Wendy Maisey, customer relationship director at ICC Solutions, will conduct a seminar geared towards stakeholders at any point on the EMV migration timeline.
The show and exhibit will run from January 29-30, 2014 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, “but those interested in getting educated on the hottest trends in payment security and mobile payment should plan be there on the 28th for this must-see presentation,” said Executive Director of the Mobile Payments Conference, Marla Ellerman. “The executive speakers leading this session have each worked extensively on EMV implementations around the world, and will share highlights from European, Asian and Canadian markets, as well as articulate their respective understanding of the unique challenges facing the U.S. market.”
Europe and Canada adopted the secure “chip and PIN” (i.e. EMV) credit and debit cards more than two years ago. The U.S., however, has not yet made the move because of what many industry professionals are calling a chicken and egg effect: merchants don’t want to upgrade their POS (Point of Sale) terminals because they don’t see many EMV cards in use, and the reason we don’t see more EMV cards is because there are so few POS terminals in the U.S. that can read these cards.
Last month’s attack on a major U.S. retailer was only the latest of many. That, along with Visa and MasterCard’s October 2015 deadline to hold retailers responsible for fraud if they haven’t upgraded to EMV terminals is making EMV a timely topic for U.S.-based stakeholders.
“EMV is not merely a list of things that must be done, but rather a set of options that allow you to customize your implementation to serve your business needs,” says Panelist Catherine Johnston, president and CEO of ACT Canada. “During the session we’ll help attendees:
- Discover who else is making EMV choices and how this may affect your implementation
- Learn how fraud is changing in regions that have implemented EMV, so that you can be prepared
- Hear how EMV addresses five fraud areas, not just counterfeit.
“By the end of the training session,” she continued, “attendees will be armed with the knowledge to fine-tune their EMV migration strategy to save time, money and other valuable resources.”
