In a press conference held Friday in Abuja, EU officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s development goals and programmes.
When briefing Vice President Kashim Shettima on the next Ministerial Dialogue on October 19, NAN reported that the union’s Managing Director, External Action Service, Rita Laranjinha, announced the support.
While in Nigeria for the next Ministerial Dialogue with Nigerian officials, Rits assured them that the European Union will keep looking for new ways to work together.
The Vice President of the EU Mission will be in charge of presiding over this Ministerial Dialogue.
“He will be in town to meet with members of the Nigerian administration to assess the state of EU-Nigerian ties in various sectors and plot out next steps for the two organisations’ cooperation.
It was made quite evident today that the two sides share a great deal of interest in furthering the relationship.
To paraphrase, “Nigeria matters in the region, continent, and world,” and “the EU wants to make sure that we will be a partner of choice for Nigeria.”
She expressed gratitude to the vice president for his help and reaffirmed the EU delegation’s commitment to close cooperation with Nigeria in the areas of trade, investments, energy, digitalization, and peace and security.
While hosting the group at the Presidential Villa, Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria’s willingness to consider effective outside help.
President Tinubu’s foreign policy directive, he said, still prioritises alliances that benefit both parties.
He insisted that despite the difficulties, the Tinubu administration is still a breath of new air.
Like the mythical phoenix, our country will be reborn from the ashes of despair to fly to new heights. If you help us, we can spread our success over the entire continent of Africa, not just West Africa.
We intend to fundamentally alter the country’s standing. These United States of America are a beneficiary of God’s favour. We have only put to use about half of our rich natural resources and large labour force.
We are eager to work with the European Union on projects and activities that would help the Nigerian people.
Concerned about migration, Shettima urged the EU to work with the Tinubu administration to create digital jobs.
He went on to say, “The eight points of the Tinubu administration’s agenda are a perfect fit with the European Union’s agenda.”
