Former Governor of Zamfara, Alhaji Mamuda Shinkafi, has again emerged the winner of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election for the 2015 general polls.
The party’s governorship primary, which held on Tuesday, was characterised by petitions and complaints where some of the aspirants alleged foul play.
The National Headquarters of the party then rescheduled the primary for Thursday with three out of the five aspirants, including the former governor and Rep. Ibrahim Bakauye and Sen. Bello Matawalle.
Two others, Alhaji Bashir Adamu and Alhaji Sagir Hamidu, had withdrawn from the contest to back the former governor.
At the end of the second leg of the exercise, which was concluded on Friday, Shinkafi scored 295 votes while Matawalle and Rep. Bakauye scored 270 and five votes respectively.
At the end of the election, the national officer from PDP headquarters who supervised the election, Amb. Adamu Waziri, urged members of the party to support the flagbearer, to ensure that the PDP returned to power in the state in 2015.
Also while congratulating the governorship candidate, Sen. Matawalle pledged to support the winner but called on Shinkafi’s supporters not to discriminate against supporters of other contestants.
In his response, Shinkafi, who thanked all that participated in the exercise, also promised to carry everybody along. (NAN)
