A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari, was on Saturday declared the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress for the 2015 governorship in Katsina State.
The Chairman, Katsina Primary Elections Committee, Prof. Adesina Aderibigbe, who announced the result in Katsina, said Masari scored 2,470 votes to defeat his rivals.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 5,266 delegates from the 34 local government areas were screened for the primary election in the state.
According to Aderibigbe, Senator Kanti Bello polled 1,327 votes; Alhaji Sada Ilu scored 468 votes; and retired Col. Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, younger brother to the late President Umar Yar’Adua, had 243 votes.
He noted that the election was free, fair and credible, adding that it was conducted in accordance with the party’s rule and regulation.
